Search for a better VHF/UHF Dual band Mobile Antenna

Since transferring within my company to a different office the D710 in my car is getting much more use during my daily commute to and from work. For the most part I can get into the local repeater, K2PUT on 145.130 MHz However at the furthest point in my commute from the repeater I start to become scratchy and I am getting reports of not being able to hold the repeater. This is even with the D710 on the 50W setting. The antenna is a Diamond NR73B-NMO Dual Band. According to the specs it is a 1/2 wave on 2M and 2 5/8 wave on 70cm, with 2.15dB and 5.3dB gain respectively. But gain in reference to??? I am not sure. Either way, if I had a little more gain, I might be able to hold the repeater all the way during my commute. There are a few other things I can look at, such as power supply for the radio, and grounding for the antenna and radio, but right now I am looking at possibly a new antenna with a little more gain.
