Well, my first semi major milestone was reached during the 2012 CQ WW SSB Contest. When I imported my contest log into Ham Radio Deluxe I was pleasantly surprised to see that I have 103 DX entities worked !!

2012 CQ World Wide DX Contest

The 2012 CQ World Wide DX contest is coming up quick, actually I didn't realize it was so soon, until someone pointed it out. This should be a good test for the OCF Dipole. This will be my first run in this contest, but I have to wonder what the difference between 'CQ WW WPX', and 'CQ World Wide DX' is? Well... I did some asking around and got my answer. CQ WW WPX is "Worked all prefix"  and CQ World Wide is just CQ zones and countries. It doe seem the this one, CQ WW DX, is "The Big One" We'll see how it plays out.

2012 New York QSO Party

So , New York had their QSO Party this past weekend, and while I did not get a lot of time to be on air, I did manage 40 or so SSB QSOs in the two hours or so i had to operate. I am still having mixed feelings about the new OCF Dipole I put up earlier in the spring. While the noise is better (further away from the buildings) I am losing more in line loss, just how much remains to be seen, or calculated. I tried e-mailing the tech dept of the cable manufacturer, but have not heard a reply. I am going to give them a call in a few days if I don't hear back soon.

Forming a team for the SSB Rookie Roundup

I am thinking of forming a team for the SSB Rookie Roundup. If anyone would like to join, please leave a comment. I will check back frequently.

2012 ARRL Rookie Roundup - SSB

Less than 10 days till the SSB roundup, and I need to do some improvements to the station! Unfortunately this will be my only year in the roundup. Rules state "In the Rookie Roundup, a Rookie is defined has having been first licensed in the current calendar year or the previous two calendar years, regardless of license class. To compete in the 2012 Rookie Roundup events, an amateur must have received their license in 2012, 2011 or 2010." I first was licensed

2012 CQ WW WPX SSB contest, in review.

Well, as I figured, I did not have as much uninterrupted time as I did for the ARRL contest, but that didn't stop the fun. The good news, no mechanical or electrical failures. The Bad news, only 102 QSOs. For me it seemed 10M was dead, so I only spent a little while there. Spent most of the time on 20M and 15M, as they were active during the time I had to participate in the contest.

2012 CQ WW WPX Contest SSB

With just about 24 hours till the start of the 2012 CQ WW WPX SSB Contest Things are not looking good for my chances. If you remember from the ARRL SSB DX Contest I have an issue with the antenna tuner I am using with my SB-200

2012 ARRL SSB DX Contest, In review.

Well, this being my first attempt at a contest, I thought I would post a few comments. OK, not really my first contest, but I can't count the other two, since I only spent a few minutes in them. This contest I spent considerable time, and set goals for myself. Friday night I had dinner plans so I didn't get started until about 10PM local, or 03:00Z Saturday. After getting set up with the logging program, N1MM, I proceed to scan the 80M band for contacts.

2012 ARRL SSB DX Contest is upon us

Well this is the weekend for the 2012 ARRL SSB DX Contest. I have the house to myself so there should be little interruption, not that I expect to sit at the radio all weekend. I do have other stuff to do, but I am sure will get a few hours here and there to get some contacts in.

2011 ARRL 10M Contest

This coming weekend, 12/10 00:00Z - 12/11  24:00Z, is the ARRL 10 Meter Contest. I am not really a 'contester' but use the opportunity to search out some DX and also test out some equipment. There are plenty of stations on the air, so the opportunity to get someone new is good. .
